Ode to my family

This month, I'm celebrating home. My home.

My whole life people have asked me where I come from, and where is my home. I remember never understanding how people would get homesick while on vacation. I liked being anywhere else, didn't have the feeling of belonging to any four walls.
It took me years to find my place on Earth and in terms of those four walls, of a physical place, I'm still searching. But I found my family home. Among glitter floating in the air and rainbow flags dancing in the wind. Somewhere between the “free hugs” signs and the sound and smell of latex. Everyone screamed, “I was born this way”.

My Home, the LGBTQIA+ community. Every single one of you that has ever fought for us, for me, to be able to live. Every single one of you who is marching with me, hand in hand, arm by arm, fighting for all of those who still can't. Every single one of you who does not understand yet and is willing to stay in the four walls of your closet for a little longer. All of you are part of me, as I am part of you. I might not know you, never met, and never will, but you are my family. A family where I will always have space to grow, to feel, to love, and to feel supported. A family that won't let me die. I won't let you either.
I'm forever thankful, and proud to be a part of this and to build up from what had already been done. I'm proud of you and us.

It took me some years to understand this, my placement on this earth, but I feel like I've come home, and no family is perfect. We have and will have our debacles, there will be the uncles that I won't agree with, and will fight for them to shut up and listen, and learn. But it's worth the love I'm getting from every corner, it's worth every wet kiss and admiration for you.

So, my dear, you might not feel the same, maybe not yet. That's okay. It doesn't make you any less. You might still feel alone but know, I'm here, and some more of us are. Here, for you.

With love,
Your family (in this case, it's just me)
✌🌈
